"Anne of Green Gables" – The musical stageplay, which follows the early 1900s life of an 11-year old orphan girl, is presented Sept. 12-Oct. 6 at Master Arts Theater, 75 77th St. SW in Byron Township. The play is adapted from the Lucy Maud Montgomery book in which young Anne is mistakenly sent to a farm family which had expected a boy. The lead role of Anne Shirley features local actress Eliana Gonzalez. The production opens the Master Arts 2019-20 season. Tickets are $19 adults, $17 seniors and students. Josh Shicker - The singer-songwriter-worship leader returns to West Michigan for a concert at 7pm Wed. Sept. 18 at Brew Merchant, 442 Washington Ave. Holland. The Hope College grad served in the school's chapel music program and was a part of several locally-based bands before relocating out of the area. Shicker has written several solo albums touching on themes of hope and grace. He currently serves as director of worship arts and technology at North Ave. Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Also on the bill is Jeremy Hoekstra, whose new song "How Long?" debuts this month. For more information visit online.
Hymn Sing – The Singing Hims, an area male chorus directed by Jack Ponstine, headlines a hymnsing benefit at 7:30pm Sun. Sept. 22 at Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church, 2101 Baldwin St. Jenison. Numerous instrumentalists will also be featured. The "sing" is directed by Cliff Doornbos. No tickets are necessary, donations will be received. Proceeds will go to Mississippi Christian Family Services, a ministry long supported by the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (now World Renew) and volunteers from West Michigan.
