New Music Review: Close

"Close" is the type of gospel ballad which has faithfully delivered his musical testimony in years past.
Sapp, 50, is co-founder and pastor of Lighthouse Full Life Center Church on Madison Ave. SE in Grand Rapids. But he's also a nationally renowned, award-winning gospel music artist.
A keyboard-based anthem, "Close" takes advantage of a live setting and a background singing choir as the verses and chorus positively point beyond current troubles to a fulfillment of a divine plan.
The song is the title track from the album to be issued in September.
"We have to remember that the tougher things get, that often means we are closer to God's destiny for our lives," said Sapp of the song. "Whatever you may be going through, this song is saying don't stress about it, you are close."
Sapp co-wrote the song with long-time collaborator Aaron Lindsey and Solomon Edwards.
The new album – his 11th solo effort – will include several "surprises," including an appearance by gospel star Kirk Franklin.
Before he became a solo artist in the mid 1990s, Sapp was part of the Detroit-based gospel group Commissioned. A widowed father of three, Sapp recently witnessed his youngest daughter's graduation from NorthPointe Christian High School.
