This column is feature writer Terry DeBoer's look ahead at some of the area's faith-based entertainment/arts/enrichment opportunities in the next month. Here's a few for January:
Selah - The award-winning, inspirational trio presents a re-scheduled concert at 7pm Fri. Jan 14 at Ridge Point Community Church, 340 104th Ave. Holland. The singers' December 9 concert was postponed when vocalist Todd Smith tested positive for COVID. Selah's most recent album, "Step Into My Story," won a 2021 Dove Award. Other members include Allan Hall and Amy Perry. Doors open at 6pm. All tickets for the original date will be honored, and there are additional tickets for sale: $20 general admission, $35 dollars for select "artist circle" seating. Latasha Morrison – The interracial and cross-cultural trainer for churches and ministries speaks on: "Be The Bridge: Pursuing God's Heart for Racial Reconciliation" at 12:30pm Mon. Jan 17 as part of Calvin University's January Series in the Covenant Fine Arts Center. Morrison addresses the issues of racial inequality and systemic injustice. The lecture is free and is shown via video link at several West Michigan churches. The address can also be accessed on demand from 2pm to midnight on the day of the event, which is in celebration of MLK Day. Faithful Journey Quartet – The West Michigan-based Southern gospel vocal group presents a 10th anniversary reunion concert at 6:30pm Sat. Jan. 22 at Messiah Christian Reformed Church, 2900 Springdale St. in Hudsonville. The group includes veteran voices such as bass singer Dennis Deters and baritone Scott Roon. Among the special guests are several former Faithful Journey members, including Jim Visser of the Lowell area, currently singing in the Sojourner Quartet. There will be testimonies shared along with some note from the group's history. No tickets are necessary; a free-will offering will be received.
