Local: Setting Captives Free from Emotional and Spiritual Captivity: Dean Vander Mey and Set Free Ministries

By Timothy Burns

sfm2The Bible is filled with Old and New Testament stories of evil spirits that afflicted, oppressed, and even possessed God’s people. Even though Hollywood has spared no expense creating drama, humor, and horror movies that have inoculated the American conscious against any dark spiritual reality, the Bible quietly declares the truth of two spiritual kingdoms at war with each other, at war over God’s greatest creation, you and I.

Local: Bridge Street House of Prayer: A Bridge between the Church and Grand Rapids’ West Side Community

By Timothy Burns

bshop2My dad grew up on Grand Rapids’ West Side. I still remember his stories of pranks he and his brothers played on unsuspecting neighbors during the Depression as the city struggled to find its feet between the Great Wars. neighbor2 Oooh! Ooh! Wait, Wait!! That headline doesn’t say what I mean. Let’s talk up our neighbors. Let’s talk about the proper care and “feeding” of those who live next door, across the street, or up or down from where we hang our hat. Those who live in our neighborhood are the ones we see, wave to and kibbitz with about life.

Dear Dave,

My mother-in-law has a serious credit card problem. She can’t afford stuff, but she shops anyway, acquires more and more credit and thinks she’ll pay for it all later somehow. Her husband has bailed her out a few times, but he’s unwilling to do it anymore. My wife and I, and her sister, want to address this issue, but where do we start?

“Although my memory's fading, I remember two things very clearly: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior.”

John Newton

“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life."

Revelation 22:17
