Escape Ministries Enables Holland At-Risk Youth to Reflect God's Image

by Paul R. Kopenkoskey

Escape Ministries 235Willie Watt, Jr. is well aware at-risk youth are often labeled troublemakers whose futures are too often assumed dim. That's a key reason why he named his Holland-based nonprofit organization Escape Ministries.

"People need to escape from how the world sees them to how God sees them," said Watt, a former member of the Chicago street gang, the Black Disciples, who founded Escape Ministries in 2009.

"I had to escape this thought process of what I believed about myself and see myself how God sees me," said Watt. "So many kids and people don't get that. They're told they're this or labeled as that and they need to escape that."

Leaving Memories Behind

by Dan Seaborn

dan seabornIt was an icy room with mints on every table and the smell of dead flowers clinging to the air. The curtains and carpet were that lush, slightly faded and dusty type, precisely the kind you'd expect. And in one corner, in a casket, lay Dave, a man I had known only fairly well while he lived.

I was there because I knew someone else in the family; they had asked me to be a part of the funeral proceedings. So I showed up and spent time with the people who had played starring roles in Dave's life. His wife was there, with their children and grandchildren and others. They had all lost the patriarch, and now they had to figure out how to move forward after his death.

Finance: Dave Says....

Dear Dave,

My wife and I are both in our early 20s, we're debt-free, and we're just a couple of months away from having a fully loaded emergency fund of six months of expenses. We both also have 401(k) plans at work, and we're looking forward to starting additional investments later this year. Right now, we're trying to decide on which life insurance policies to buy. I know you always recommend term insurance, but how long should the coverage last? Would you suggest 15-, 20- or 30-year policies?

Rex B. Andrews

"I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought."
