SowHope Inspires World's Neglected People: Impoverished Women

by Paul R. Kopenkoskey

Sow Hope235Mary Dailey Brown's work as a White House staff photographer for Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but she wouldn't trade that job for what she's doing now as co-founder of the international charitable organization, SowHope.

Since its founding in 2006, SowHope's programs have impacted more than 56,000 impoverished women living in 15 Third World countries.

By "impoverished," Dailey Brown is referring to women who earn $2 a day or less.

EaRN 235
Thankfully, the Great Recession is in the rearview mirror of history. But there is still work to be done for those who want to learn how to remain employable, are searching for a new career, or need to know how to find work, say the founder and executive director of the nondenominational ministry, Employment and Resource Network (EaRN).

"Unemployment is very low, but that doesn't tell the whole story," said Fletcher Cochran, executive director of EaRN. "We still have people in transition who want to identify the vocation that is right for them and develop search plans."

Powerball Is a Ruse

by Dr. Rex M. Rogers

powerballHitting the Powerball jackpot has become our number one American fantasy.  Everyone’s gaga about Powerball’s $1B prize.  Journalists are breathlessly reporting the latest running total, repeatedly sharing person-in-the-street responses to, “What would you do with a billion dollars?”  Sports analysts are getting giddy on air talking about buying tickets.  People who typically don’t gamble in lotteries can’t resist purchasing a few $2 tickets, “just in case.”  Grandparents are acquiring tickets for grandchildren.

But Powerball—a mega lottery involving 44 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands—is a huge ruse, a gimmick designed to suck money from a gullible, all-too-willing populace for politicians’ fav government projects.

Dear Dave,

My husband and I are currently renting an apartment for $1,200 a month. Together, we bring home about $7,000 a month, and we'd really like to buy a house soon. Right now we have about $10,000 in debt on a boat along with ongoing stable bills, food and upkeep for our three horses. What price range of houses should we look at in our situation?

The founders of every major religion said, "I'll show you how to find God." Jesus said, "I am God who has come to find you."

Timothy Keller

But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, "You must be holy because I am holy."

1 Peter 1:15-16 NLT
