Author, Pastor Addresses Critical Issues of Church and Culture

By Ann Byle

Ingram Chip2

Pastor Chip Ingram is eager to address the cultural issues that are so much a part of our times, including sexuality, homosexuality, abortion, the environment and politics. His message is most strong when it comes to the church and these topics.

"These are the defining issues, but behind all of the topics is the church's belief in the authority of Scripture, and whether we believe what Scripture says is Truth or not," said Ingram, senior pastor of Venture Christian Church near San Jose, CA, and former president of Walk Through the Bible. "Our base issue is that we're not sticking with what Scripture truly says."

Perspective: Do We Have An "Incarceration Problem"?

By Shiloh Carozza

border6A new misnomer has tunneled into our vocabulary. What we once called the problem of crime has been renamed “The Incarceration Problem” by neo-reformers who seek reduce the prison population using early release, lighter sentences, or no sentence at all. Yet their nearsighted view focuses only on the effect, while failing to address the obvious cause: crime. Furthermore, the entire argument cannot withstand the test of reason, as it is built on three baseless assumptions: 1) convicts are unfairly incarcerated; 2) incarceration fails to make the public safer, and 3) incarceration should prioritize rehabilitation over justice.

Finance: Dave Says....

davernew2Dear Dave,

I'm getting married soon, and my fiancée and I together have saved about $9,000 for our wedding. Right now, we're doing really well on our budgets and almost always have money left over each month. Should we use the extra money to continue paying down our debt, or is it okay to use it for a few wedding incidentals?

Last month 28 people from 14 different congregations gathered to pray for revival and spiritual awakening in the Greater Grand Rapids area!!

This month the group is inviting you to join them, at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 9 at Brown-Hutcherson Ministries, 618 Jefferson Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.

Here is our hope:
• to continue to join together in prayer, getting to know and love each other more and more through our prayer times together,
• to seek His face as to additional steps He wants us to take to bring a greater sense of His presence to the greater Grand Rapids area, thereby driving darkness out of our community
• to pray for a greater sense of God-honoring unity among His followers in our area,
• to cry out for a mighty outpouring of the Spirit of God on our area, reviving His Bride and causing many to come to saving faith in Christ.

The meeting will be lead by Randy and Marcia Hekman

Final Words:

"Where God is not glorified – that place is sick."

AW Tozer
