West Michigan Christian News writer Terry DeBoer surveys the landscape for the area's faith-based arts/entertainment/enrichment events over the coming month. Here are three highlights for April.
"Orphan Train" – The historical stage play telling the early 20th Century story of unwanted/orphaned children is presented April 12-May 5 at Master Arts Theatre, 75 77th St. SW. The heart-warming script depicts the adventure of the childrens' transport from New York to the Midwest in search of adopting families. It was written by legendary children's playwright Aurand Harris, whose most famous play was "Androcles and the Lion." Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with 2 p.m. Saturday matinees. Tickets are $17 adult, $15 senior citizens and students. *Unspoken and Citizen Way – The contemporary Christian bands perform on their "Breakthrough" tour at 6pm Sat. April 14 at Fremont High School, 204 E. Main in Fremont. Unspoken's latest song is "Miracle" from its most recent album, "Follow Through." Citizen Way is an ensemble with a brand new song, "Wave Walker." Opening act is singer-songwriter Jason Fowler. General admission tickets are $13 in advance, $15 at the door. VIP passes with early entry and Q&A with artists $25. Doors open at 5pm. The concert is organized by Cure Us First Priority. *"Secret Keeper Girl" – The inspirational event for pre-teen girls and their moms is set for 6:30pm Sat. April 28 at DeVos Center for Arts and Worship, 2300 Plymouth Ave. SE, Grand Rapids. Created by author Dannah Gresh, Secret Keeper Girl has a "Masterpiece" theme helping young girls discover they are created as masterpieces of God. Tips on modesty, true beauty, and a mother-daughter fashion show are featured. Recommended for girls ages 7-12, this event provides an ideal opportunity for mother-daughter bonding.
