Terry's Picks: November 2017

EVENTSWest Michigan Christian News writer Terry DeBoer offers some suggestions for faith-based arts/entertainment and enrichment events over the coming month. Here are his three picks for November:

Calvin College Alumni Choir – The vocal emsemble, under the direction of Prof. Pearl Shangkuan, presents its annual fall concert at 3pm Sun. Nov. 5 in Covenant Fine Arts Center Auditorium at Calvin College in Grand Rapaids. On the program are classical pieces by Bach and Mendelssohn as well as a few familiar hymns including "How Firm A Foundation," "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Amazing Grace." Tickets are $20 adult, $5 students and children and are available at the Calvin box office, online.or phone 616-526-6282 ($25 for adult tickets at the door).

• NeedToBreathe – The faith-based rock band, anchored by brothers Bear and Bo Rinehart, performs at 7:30pm Sat. Nov. 11 at 20 Monroe Live in downtown Grand Rapids. The band is the winner of two 2017 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards in connection with its recent album, "Hard Love." The band was an opening act for superstar Taylor Swift on her 2011 tour, including a show at Van Andel Arena. Tickets start at $59 and are available online or by phone at 800-745-3000 One dollar per ticket sold will go to the band's long-time favorite charity, the Palmetto Medical Initiative, www.palmettomedical.org.

• "Love Worth Fighting For" – This marriage enhancement event, featuring actor/filmmaker Kirk Cameron, is set for 3pm Sun. Nov. 12 at Community Reformed Church, 10376 Felch St. in Zeeland. The format includes music, humor, film clips and biblical teaching on marriage. Also on the bill is singer-songwriter Warren Barfield whose song "Love is Not A Fight" was used in Cameron's film "Fireproof." Tickets are $22 general admission, group rate $20. VIP tickets (including early entry and Q&A/autograph session with Cameron) are $50. Available online at www.itickets.com or phone 800-965-9324.
