Terry’s Picks: October 2017

EVENTSWest Michigan Christian News writer Terry DeBoer offers some suggestions for faith-based arts and entertainment events over the coming month.

Here are his three picks for October:

*Andy Mineo and Social Club Misfits – The faith-based, rap/hip-hop artists perform Sun Oct. 15 at The Intersection, 133 Grandville Ave. SW in Grand Rapids. Mineo's latest full-length release is "Uncomfortable," and he recently contributed vocals on the new Steven Malcolm project.
Social Club Misfit's latest album ("The Misadventures of Fern and Marty") is nominated for a Dove Award as Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year. Special guest on the bill is Wordsplayed. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $21 in advance, $25 day of show. Reserve tickets online.

*Uncommon Worshipers Gathering – West Michigan gospel singer-songwriter/worship leader Glenda R. Williams hosts this special conference Fri.-Sat. Oct. 21-22 at Kingdom Life Ministries, 2371 Kalamazoo Ave. SE Grand Rapids. Breakout sessions for worship leaders and musicians and the role of prayer in worship are included, with keynote addresses from Carolyn Allen and Pastor Eric Tolbert. Several other area worship leaders and musicians are also presenters. A "state of worship" discussion concludes the conference. Saturday light breakfast and lunch included. *David Crowder - The singer-songwriter and his band presents their "American Prodigal" album tour at 7pm Fri. Oct. 27 at the Calvin College Covenant Fine Arts Center Auditorium in Grand Rapids. His latest Grammy and Dove Award-nominated release contains songs such as the rhythmic "Run Devil, Run" and the searching ballad "Forgiven." Also on the bill are Jimi Cravity and The Young Escape.
