EVENTSHow about taking a little drive this month? Visit one of our outlying area venues and see a free-will offering concert in an informal setting. West Michigan Christian News writer Terry DeBoer has some suggestions in that direction for the month of July:

*The Martins – The inspirational, Southern gospel trio performs at 6 p.m. Sun. July 16 in Sandy Pines Lakeside Chapel at Sandy Pines Resort in northeast Allegan County. The three Martin family siblings have several Dove Awards and other music honors, and make frequent appearances on the Gaither Homecoming tours and videos. Their most recent CD is a collection titled "A Cappella." The Sandy Pines Chapel gate opens at 4 p.m. Bring your own lawn chairs. Come to the resort's 26th St. entrance south of 142nd Ave. (GPS location: 3630 26th St. Dorr, MI 49323). No tickets necessary. Visit www.sandypineschapel.com.

*King's Brass – The inspirational instrumental ensemble presents a concert at 6 p.m. Sun. July 23 at Gun Lake Chapel, 2910 Patterson Ave. Wayland (just west of Gun Lake). Led by director Tim Zimmerman, the group has recorded more than a dozen albums of sacred, patriotic, holiday, hymn and worship music in various styles. The group features trumpeter Gregory Alley, a Hudsonville resident and Cornerstone University alumnus. Allen is also a Calvin College instructor and performer with the Holland Symphony Orchestra. There are no tickets necessary; a free-will offering will be received. Contact www.gunlakechapel.org

*Andrew Peterson – The inspirational singer-songwriter/author performs at 7 p.m. Sat. July 29 at Maranatha Bible Conference, 4759 Lake Harbor Rd. Muskegon. The versatile artist's signature song is the marriage-inspired ballad, "Dancing in the Minefields" (see the video online. Peterson also is the author of the fantasy-adventure book series "The Wingfeather Saga," currently in development as an animated series. His most recent CD is "The Burning Edge of Dawn."
