Thirsty Ground

Thirsty Ground Holdfast Cover235The West Michigan Christian pop-rock band Thirsty Ground has a new five-song collection titled "Hold Fast."

It contains four new tunes, plus a re-make of one of its earlier songs.

The EP opens with the musical plea "Let's Not Forget," a reminder of the sacrifice of Christ for our salvation. Its straightforward message is framed with a rockin' chorus that sets it apart.

"Grow Old," opens things up a bit with its quick drum beats and ringing guitar. The song also expresses a longing: in a world where relationships are fleeting, let's commit to working things out and to "grow old" together.

"Let It Go" might sound familiar. No, this is not the song from the "Frozen" movie. It's actually the original title track from the band's earlier EP. Thirsty Ground's newer version (which retains the smart bridge/chorus between verses) is anchored by two electric guitars rather than keyboard.

"Wanted" – which would make a great concert sing-along tune - shares picturesque metaphors of God's desires for his children.

Formed in 2013 by local singer-songwriter-worship leader Michael Engel, the quartet hit the ground running with an album release that same year.

Most of the band members (Engel, Steve Bacinski, Billy Hirt, Justin White) all play in area church worship ensembles. Although no open-to-the-public concerts are on the short-term gig list, the band hopes to perform again this June at the annual Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts.

You can check out the songs on the band's youTube channel.
