EVENTSWest Michigan Christian News writer Terry DeBoer surveys the landscape for the area's faith-based arts and entertainment events over the coming month. Here are three highlights for October:

*The Hoppers – The veteran, family-based Southern gospel group performs at 7 p.m. Sunday Oct. 11 at Rush Creek Bible Church, 2334 76th St. SW in Byron Center. The ensemble – originally called The Hopper Brothers – is led by Claude and Connie Hopper and is frequently featured on the Gaither Homecoming tours and videos. The group's breakthrough national hit song was 1990's "Here I Am." Their most recent studio project is "Count Me In." Also on the bill is the Triumphant Quartet. No tickets are necessary: free admission with an offering for Byron Community Ministries. For more info online or  616-583-7600.

*Metropolitan Choir of Praise – The mixed-voice choral ensemble presents a fall concert at 5 p.m. Sun. Oct. 18 at First Jenison Christian Reformed Church, 8360 Cottonwood Dr. Jenison. With a history dating back to 1963, the choir presents both traditional and contemporary styles of inspirational/Christian music and features voices from throughout West Michigan. Several years ago the ensemble released a CD collection of songs commemorating its 50th anniversary. The choir is directed by Mark Shepard, a Byron Center music instructor and member of the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus. There is no admission charge. For more information online or call 616-538-6779.

*Shawn McDonald – The Christian music singer-songwriter performs a free admission concert Sat. Oct. 31 at Rosewood Reformed Church, 2795 Rosewood Street in Jenison. McDonald hit the national Christian music scene in 2004 with his acoustic-driven anthem "Gravity." His most recent charting song was last year's "We Are Brave." The artist performed in 2014 at the Worship on the Waterfront series in Grand Haven. Special musical guests are Jonathan Thulin and Jeremy Vanderloop. There is no admission charge. For more information online or call 616-669-6690.
